Glenfiddich whisky hidden in 1950s sells for £17,000 (April 2015)

A FORGOTTEN hoard of whisky which lay hidden in the cellar of a Perthshire country house for 60 years sold for £17,000 at an auction.

The 14 bottles of Glenfiddich special pure malt Scotch whisky soared above the estimate of £600 to £800 per bottle, when they went under the hammer in Perth on Wednesday 15 April.

Some of the bottles were still wrapped in the original tissue paper they were sold in and according to auctioneer Nick Burns, some may have even already been opened to see how the contents have matured since the 1950s.

Nick Burns of Lindsay Burns and Co Ltd, who auctioned the bottles said: “The bottles went to various collectors and connoisseurs.

“A lot will stay in Scotland".

“They are rare survivors, they come from the 50s when Glenfiddich was one of the few malts available.

“Some people will want to buy a bottle to drink, some will see it as an investment".
