Services

The Company consists of the Valuation and Auction department, Accounts and Administration and the Operations Team.

Valuations

We can prepare valuations for Inheritance Tax, Probate, Insurance and Sale We are able to undertake valuations for single items through to the contents of an entire collection or estate.

We provide a house clearance service specific to our clients requirements. This includes the sale of items by auction, storage of items for beneficiaries where applicable and disposal of property should this be required.

Our valuations are presented in a hard bound format. Where applicable digital photographs can be included.

We aim to complete valuations for our clients promptly.

We have two categories of sales. The quarterly Antiques and Fine Art Sale and the fortnightly General Sale.

Antiques and Fine Art Sale

These sales consist of Pictures, Antique Furniture, Rugs, Works of Art, Clocks, Silver and Jewellery, British and European Ceramics and Glass, Asian Art, Books, Manuscripts and Maps, Arms and Armour. All lots are presented in an illustrated catalogue available approximately ten days before the sale date as well as being available on our website. If you are interested in purchasing a catalogue or would like to be added to our email list for sale notification, please contact the office.

General Sale

These sales consist of Victorian, Edwardian and Modern furniture and furnishings, together with a large selection of collectables including ceramics, glass, silver, jewellery, pictures, prints, toys, cameras and books as well as general household goods. All lots are listed on our website prior to the sale as well as being listed in a catalogue. Catalogues are available to purchase on viewing day. If you would like to be added to our email list for sale notification, please contact the office.

Registration

To register for a sale, simply complete a registration form available from the office.

Absentee Bids

We are able to execute bids on your behalf if you are unable to attend a sale. Simply complete an absentee bidding form with the lot number, description and maximum bid as well as your contact details and we will be happy to process this. An absentee bidding form can be obtained from the office or downloaded.

Telephone Bids

We are able to execute telephone bids on your behalf if you are unable to attend a sale. To register a telephone bid please contact us. All telephone bids must be received 24 hours prior to the sale. Please note telephone bids are subject to approval and are provided on a first come first served basis.

Payment

Buyers paying by cheque or means other than cash such as a bank transfer must make prior arrangements with the Auctioneers. Cheques should be made out to Lindsay Burns & Company. The auctioneers accept payment by Debit cards issued by United Kingdom banks, there is no additional charge for purchases made with these cards. Debit cards issued by overseas banks, deferred debit cards and all credit cards will be subject to a 3.5% surcharge. Visa and MasterCard Credit cards are accepted; please note that there is a 3.5% surcharge on the total invoice value when payment is made in manner. 

All sales are subject the a buyer's premium at 15% plus VAT.

Operations

House Clearance

We are able to undertake complete house clearances using our discretion to offer items for sale or disposal. This can be arranged to suit clients' needs, usually at short notice.

Collection and Delivery

Our Luton Van is available to collect items for sale and deliver items bought at sale. Charges apply, please refer to the office for a quote.

Removal

We are able to undertake removals or transfer property to a specified location subject to client’s requirements.

Advertising and Marketing

If you are interested in collecting or searching for specific items our specialists are happy to meet your requirements. Our database and website enables us to contact you via email or by catalogue subscription. Our sales are advertised in both local and national press. Where applicable specific marketing packages can be tailored to meet your requirements. As well as our own website, we work in conjunction with the Antiques Trade Gazette website for advertising the Antiques and Fine Arts sales thus ensuring maximum exposure.
